01 - Combine oat groats, water, and salt in a medium saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
02 - Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 30-35 minutes, stirring occasionally, until groats are tender and most water is absorbed.
03 - Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla extract, ground cardamom, and sweetener if using. Let sit covered for 2 minutes.
04 - Divide oat groats between two bowls. Top each with fresh berries, toasted nuts, coconut flakes, dried fruit, and yogurt if desired.
05 - Serve warm and enjoy immediately.
